Sente Reminds Fremont Township Residents of Property Tax Assessment Appeal Deadline

07/13/2017

“Whenever I speak to residents in the community, or respond to constituent letters and emails, the need for relief from skyrocketing property taxes is constantly at the forefront of the discussion,” Sente said. “Local families want to see relief in both the short-term and the long-term, which is why in addition to supporting legislation to freeze and reduce property tax bills, I am working to connect residents with helpful community resources.”

Sente is reminding residents that the Lake County Assessor’s Office is providing free help centers to assist residents with understanding their property tax assessments at the University Center of Lake County, located at 1200 University Center Dr. in Grayslake, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday July 18. Taxpayer advocates are also available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 7th floor of the Lake County Assessment Office, located at 18 N. County St. in Waukegan.

During the spring legislative session, Sente supported Senate Bill 484, which would have frozen residents’ property taxes for four years. In addition, the legislation would provide all Illinois homeowners a roughly 15 percent increase on their general homestead exemptions and even greater relief to qualifying seniors, veterans and persons with disabilities.

“Illinois has some of the highest property taxes in the country, making it extremely difficult for many homeowners, especially working families and seniors living on fixed-incomes, to continue living in their own homes and our state,” Sente said. “Whether it is through community events or legislation, I recognize this concern and am committed to fighting to help provide residents with real property tax relief.”
